California Colorectal Cancer Coalition: Initiatives for CRC Awareness Month
Our mission is to save lives and reduce suffering from colorectal cancer in all Californians. March has been officially proclaimed Colorectal Cancer Awareness month for the City of San Francisco! Colon cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, yet it remains a significant health concern across the region.
Educational Events and Awareness Programs
To support community health, several organizations are hosting specialized sessions. For instance, the UCSF Gastroenterology – CRC Awareness Month Town Hall, hosted by the UCSF Division of Gastroenterology – Lynch Syndrome Center, invites you to participate in a town hall focusing on prevention and awareness. Additionally, the program UCSD: Take Charge of Your Health – Navigating the Cancer Screening Roadmap offers unique insights into the disease.
Below is a summary of the key focus areas for the upcoming educational events:
- Cancer Development: Understanding how colorectal cancer starts and progresses.
- Target Demographics: Learning about common types of cancer in women and the elderly.
- Risk Management: Identifying key risk factors and essential prevention tools.
- Community Support: Accessing community resources available for patients and advocates.
Civic Engagement and Public Support
Symbolic actions play a major role in the month's activities. Please join us on Wednesday, March 5th from 6:30-7:30pm as San Francisco’s Mayor Lurie turns San Francisco City Hall blue for Colorectal Cancer Awareness month.
Support from the public is vital for the continuation of these efforts. Stay updated on the extensive expertise that C4 offers for the CRC care continuum. Your donation helps to increase funding for programs within C4 that go directly towards helping people gain access to screening and care for colorectal cancer. This collaborative effort ensures that the California Colorectal Cancer Coalition can continue its work in advocacy, news, and funding for critical healthcare services.
Available Resources and Information
C4 provides a wide range of materials for Health Care Providers, Health Systems, and Patients/Advocates. These resources include podcasts, presentations, and publications aimed at reducing the burden of colorectal cancer throughout the state.
