Comprehensive Women’s Health and Clinical Expertise
The Star and Barry Tobias Women’s Health Center combines advanced technology with clinical expertise to provide a full range of care in a setting designed with your comfort in mind, including heated robes and private changing rooms. Everything you need to take care of your health and well-being. The center is accredited by the American College of Radiology as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence and has all the services you need for your breast and bone health, including screenings, diagnostics, and, if needed, an on-site breast surgeon.
Osteoporosis and Bone Health
With their smaller frames and thinner bones women are already more at risk for osteoporosis and bone fracture than men. And as women enter menopause, sharp drops in estrogen increase those odds. In fact, 80% of the 10 million Americans who are diagnosed with osteoporosis are women. Monitoring bone loss as you approach menopause is an important way for women to take charge of their health and help reduce the risk of bone loss and fractures as you age.
Detect osteoporosis before it starts with a noninvasive, painless DEXA scan. This bone density screening looks at bones in a small area of the hip and back to determine their strength. Key services include the most advanced technology available for bone density screening for detecting osteoporosis.
Breast Cancer Screening and Diagnostics
Key services include the most advanced mammography technology available for both routine mammogram screenings and diagnostic testing. CentraState uses 3D imaging technology, which provides a more detailed view of breast tissue for more accurate results. Diagnostic breast screenings are specialized imaging tests designed to investigate specific concerns, such as lumps or abnormal findings. Unlike routine mammograms, which are performed regularly to detect early signs of breast cancer, diagnostic screenings offer a more detailed view to assess potential issues.
Specialized Breast Programs and Biopsies
CentraState’s High Risk Breast Cancer Program provides an extra layer of assurance for women who are at an increased risk of developing breast cancer. A care plan could include semiannual office visits, annual breast MRI and supplemental ultrasound, and genetic testing, if a significant family history is present. For further diagnosis, the center offers several advanced procedures:
- Stereotactic Core Needle Biopsy (SCNB): This core biopsy uses X-rays and computer coordinates. It offers a groundbreaking alternative to standard, open surgical biopsy and is less invasive, less painful, and less costly than traditional surgical biopsy.
- Ultrasound-Guided Breast Biopsy: This is useful when suspicious changes are detected through mammograms and ultrasounds, but no abnormality can be felt during the breast exam.
- Cryoablation: An FDA-approved treatment for breast fibroadenomas (non-cancerous breast tumors).
Reproductive Health and Birth Control
Women have a variety of birth control options, including oral medications, intrauterine devices, hormonal implants, and injections. Women are increasingly choosing to use intrauterine devices (IUDs) to prevent pregnancy. An IUD is a T-shaped device that is inserted into the uterus. It’s important that parents bring their daughters in for an office visit before they are sexually active; experts recommend that young women first see a gynecologist between the ages of 13 and 15.

Specialized Care Programs
Limiting radiation exposure to normal tissue around the heart and lungs is a primary goal during breast cancer treatment. CentraState is now one of a few facilities in New Jersey to offer a new technique called deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH). Additionally, the Gloria Saker Women’s Heart Program at CentraState provides specialized attention for cardiac issues, ensuring that expert medical care is right in your neighborhood.
