3 Days in Dubai: The Perfect First-Timer’s Itinerary
Visiting Dubai for 3 days and wondering what to see and how to best plan your time? In this article, we share a detailed itinerary for first-timers and our experience-based tips to make the most of your short visit to this bustling metropolis. This itinerary brings you to all the top places in Dubai that you can realistically see in three days. It’s based on our own trips and includes everything you shouldn’t miss on a first visit: the city’s most iconic landmarks, traditional souks, a desert adventure, and an option to make a short side trip to Abu Dhabi.
Planning Your Stay
To avoid backtracking and save travel time, we grouped all the attractions by area. With just three days in Dubai, the best base is Downtown Dubai, close to the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall. It’s central, easy to reach by metro, and ideal for sightseeing. For this itinerary, we recommend Sofitel Dubai Downtown (5★) or Leva Hotel and Suites (4★) for a more affordable stay in the same convenient area.
Below is a summary of the recommended schedule:
| Day | Focus | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | The Icons of Downtown Dubai | Museum of the Future, Sky Views, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall |
| Day 2 | Old Dubai & the Desert | Gold Souq, Dubai Museum, Abra Ride, Desert Safari |
| Day 3 | Modern Icons or Abu Dhabi | Burj Al Arab, The Palm, or Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque |
Day 1: The Icons of Downtown Dubai
Start your first day in Dubai with its most iconic sights. The Museum of the Future is one of the most impressive architectural landmarks in Dubai; it explores technology, sustainability, and space through interactive exhibits. It is well worth visiting for the architecture alone. Next, head to Sky Views Observatory, which is the best place to enjoy sweeping views of Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai.
Afterwards, walk to the Dubai Mall. You could easily spend several days here and still not see everything, but it is one of the most costly shopping malls in the Middle East, where you can have a luxury shopping experience. Finally, experience the Burj Khalifa top floor and the Dubai Fountain Show.
Day 2: Old Dubai & the Desert
In the morning, enjoy your breakfast at Friends Avenue Cafe JLT, then head to Gold Souq Dubai. It is the biggest Gold Market in the Middle East, where you can buy the latest designs of jewelry and traditional Arabic designs. Roam around the market for 1 or 2 hours and head to Dubai Museum to feel the Arab people's past life traditions and culture. It’s the oldest building in Dubai located in Bur Dubai in Al Fahidi port.
After ending at the museum, head to an Abra Ride. It’s a traditional boat ride at Dubai Creek; you can have a boat ride from Deira to Bur Dubai for just 1 Dirham. In the afternoon, conclude your day with a Tour of Desert Safari with Dinner, which is a must-include on your 3-day itinerary bucket list.
Day 3: Burj Al Arab, The Palm, or Abu Dhabi
For your final day, you have a few options. You can visit the most luxurious hotel in Dubai, the Burj Al Arab Hotel, and spend time at the Jumeirah Beach areas. Alternatively, head to Palm Jumeirah and go inside Dubai Blue Mosque, one of the most beautiful mosques in Dubai and the only one where non-Muslims are allowed inside.
If you prefer a side trip, visit Abu Dhabi to see the famous Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Middle East’s largest mosque. While traveling from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, you can enjoy the amazing scenery of Sheikh Zayed Road. Other highlights include the Heritage Village Abu Dhabi, Emirates Palace, and on a return visit, Ferrari World and the Louvre Museum.
PRO TIP: If you’re visiting during the cooler months (Dubai’s peak season), book your hotels and activities early. Many tickets sell out over a week in advance!
