Abortion Care Services and Public Space Protection Orders in London
Abortion is a common procedure and is part of the family of reproductive health services. Every year, over 200,000 women in England and Wales have an abortion. Around 1 in 3 women in the UK will have an abortion by the time they are 45 years’ old. Choosing the best private clinic is important when you are seeking advice on an unplanned pregnancy. The right clinic will be a place where you can feel as comfortable and supported as possible while you receive the highest quality care.
Abortion Protesters Banned from Standing Outside London Clinic for 3 Years
Abortion protesters have been banned from standing outside a West London clinic for another three years. Richmond Council first banned protesters from standing outside the abortion clinic on Rosslyn Road in Twickenham in April 2019. The extension follows a summer consultation that received 1,300 letters from residents, with 94 per cent agreeing to ban protests outside the clinic. Since April 2019, the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) has led to no breaches of restrictions in the area and there have been no petitions, complaints or concerns raised with the council. It will now be extended for three more years, once the current PSPO expires on 31 March 2022.
Councillor Rob O’Carroll, who supported the extension at the council meeting, said: "Protecting the health and wellbeing of the people visiting this clinic is our absolute priority – they should be allowed to access services without feeling intimidated or distressed." Council leader Cllr Gareth Roberts added that the order "would not ban anyone from protesting or hosting a vigil, but would prevent such protests or vigils taking place near the clinic."
Restricted Zone Locations
Six roads around the London clinic are included in the ban. The following roads are included in the restriction zone around Rosslyn Road:
- St Margarets Road
- Riverdale Road
- Ravensbourne Road
- Ellesmere Road
- Arlington Road
- Rosslyn Road
Abortion Treatment and Professional Care
An abortion is a medical procedure that ends a pregnancy. Abortion clinics provide a safe environment with compassionate staff, where you can have abortion services that also meet your contraception and sexual health needs. Our aim is to make the process simple, comfortable and as stress free as possible. For over 50 years, leading providers have provided surgical and medical abortions to thousands of women each year.
When you visit for a consultation or for treatment, you will be cared for by an experienced medical specialist. Mr Michael Stafford is a consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology who provides expert treatment and advice. You will always see the same specialist when you visit, rather than being treated by an unfamiliar doctor or a nurse. This ensures all the necessary facilities and experts are on hand if there are any medical problems.
