Abortion Services and Clinics: Comprehensive Care and Guidance
As one of the leading abortion providers in the UK, we provide NHS-funded and private abortion services from our clinic in Oxford, including medical abortion care and at-home abortion pills (also known as ‘abortion telemedicine’). We provide NHS-funded and private abortion care Oxfordshire and we are here to support you.
Abortion Services in Oxford
We offer medical abortion care and surgical abortion care from our clinic in Oxford. A medical abortion (also known as the abortion pill) involves taking two types of medication (mifepristone and misoprostol) at two different times, to end a pregnancy. At MSI UK, a medical abortion is available up to 9 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy. We offer both face-to-face medical abortion care and at-home abortion pills (also known as telemedicine). If you meet the safety criteria to allow for medical abortion without a scan, the abortion medication can either be collected by you from one of our abortion clinics in Oxford or posted to your home address after your phone or face-to-face consultation.
In addition to medical options, a surgical abortion is a safe and simple procedure used to end a pregnancy. It is available up to 23 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy. The clinic is located on Peppercorn Avenue, Leiden Road, Headington, Oxford, OX3 8RZ. Please note: this building is formerly known as the Wood Farm Health Centre.
NHS Funding and Support
98% of MSI Reproductive Choices abortions in the UK are funded by the NHS. This means that there will be no cost to you for your abortion. You can self-refer, so you don’t need to call your GP to get an appointment. Furthermore, at MSI Reproductive Choices, we provide free (NHS-funded), confidential counselling services as part of abortion care. Our counselling team is available any time you need to talk before, during and after your treatment, even if your abortion was some years ago.
When you leave our clinic, your care does not end. Our friendly and experienced nurses are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on our dedicated aftercare line.
Mobile Clinics and International Access
Looking at developments in the United States, Planned Parenthood says it will soon open its first mobile abortion clinic in the country, in southern Illinois. The mobile clinic will begin offering consultations and dispensing abortion pills later this year. The mobile facility – set up inside of an RV – will include a small waiting area, laboratory, and two exam rooms. It initially will provide medication abortion up to 11 weeks gestation, officials said. This approach is intended to meet the exponential increase in the number of patients that are traveling from banned states to what we're calling 'haven states' for abortion care.
The Importance of Pregnancy Confirmation
Before an abortion, the first step is to get an ultrasound. A confirmation ultrasound can help you verify that you’re really pregnant, check for an ectopic pregnancy, and determine how far along the pregnancy is. Not all pregnancies implant in the uterus. A pregnancy outside of the uterus (ectopic) can be life-threatening, so early detection via ultrasound is critical for your safety.
