Guide to Dubai International Airport Terminals and Transit
Dubai International Airport consists of three terminal buildings. Dubai Airport provides seamless terminal transfer options through pedestrian access, shuttle buses, and automated trains, ensuring passengers can navigate their journeys with ease and efficiency.
Dubai Airport Terminals: A Brief Overview
The airport features distinct terminals catering to different airline operations:
- Terminal 1: Renovated in 2013, Terminal 1 is a modern hub with 200 check-in counters and D Gates. It connects to Concourse D via a free shuttle train and accommodates over 60 airlines for international flights.
- Terminal 2: Established in 1998, Terminal 2 is located approximately 7km away. It serves Flydubai primarily, along with limited international and charter flights, across four levels of modern amenities.
- Terminal 3: Terminal 3 stands as one of the world’s largest single-terminal buildings, exclusively serving Emirates Airlines. Luxurious and premium, it features four levels with three concourses, catering to various flight needs and offering a range of shops and restaurants.
Terminal Accessibility and Transfer Options
Terminals 1 and 3 are conveniently connected on foot, eliminating the need for passengers to go through security again. While there’s a minor security check, customs clearance or visa requirements aren’t necessary for terminal-to-terminal travel. The walk between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 typically takes between 5 to 30 minutes, with moving walkways and escalators available for added comfort. Alternatively, passengers can hop on the free airport shuttle buses, which run every 20 minutes, 24/7, or utilize the metro line serving both terminals.
For transfers involving other areas, Terminal 2 connects to Terminal 3 via the free airport shuttle bus, operating around the clock with a 20-minute frequency. Shuttle buses operate between Terminals 1, 2, and 3, offering a convenient transfer option. The journey duration varies from 15 to 25 minutes, depending on the departure and destination points. Passengers with a single ticket for connecting flights will be transferred airside by their airline.
Navigating Terminal 3 Concourses
Terminal 3 is expansive, with Concourses B and C easily reachable by foot. However, getting to the more remote Concourse A may pose a challenge. To streamline this process, passengers are encouraged to use the automated free airport train, Terminal 3 APM, for swift access to the A Gate. Additionally, the airport shuttle train provides another line connecting Terminal 1 to Concourse D, known as Terminal 1 APM.
Emirates operates across all three concourses in Terminal 3:
- Concourse A: Handles most Airbus A380 departures.
- Concourse B: Core hub for most other Emirates flights (A350 and Boeing 777 services) as well as other carriers.
- Concourse C: Supports additional Emirates services and select flydubai flights.
Terminal 3 Lounge Guide and Facilities
Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3 spans three concourses and offers one of the broadest lounge selections of any airport. There are 14 lounges in total: seven operated by Emirates (First and Business Class in each concourse, plus The Emirates Lounge in Concourse C) and seven independent options. These facilities operate 24 hours a day. Independent lounges are bookable directly or via lounge membership programs:
- Ahlan Lounges (x3): Concourse A (Gate A1), B (B26), and C (C13).
- marhaba Lounges (x3): Concourse A (A2-A3), B (B23), and C (C21-C23).

Amenities and Wellness
In addition to lounges, Terminal 3 also offers sleeping facilities, wellness treatments and gaming facilities. Passengers can access nap rooms and showers at Sleepover and the Dubai International Hotel, or enjoy wellness treatments and showers at Be Relax Spa. For entertainment, gaming time is available at the Game Space lounge.
