DIY Creative Pregnancy Announcement
Is anyone else noticing the influx of pregnancy announcements lately? It seems as though COVID-19 isn’t the only thing in the air this season. I am overjoyed to see that something good (incredible, in fact) has come out of this year. Sam and I have been blessed with our own little miracle recently after a difficult road to conceive. I am now 22 weeks along and I can tell you that Baby Hartman is already so loved.
The Inspiration Behind the Keepsake
We decided to announce to our families at 8 weeks since it was perfectly aligned with our trip back home to visit. I just had my second ultrasound (due to complications) and was able to confirm a heartbeat. We felt that we wanted to share the wonderful news with them even though we would be waiting until the 2nd trimester to share with everyone else in our lives.
Since we wanted to announce our pregnancy to our parents in person, I decided to make a pair of keepsake gifts to give them when we got home. I had dreamed about this day for nearly 10 years since Sam and I began dating, so I knew that I wanted the moment that we told them to be special. No one was expecting it (including us, since we had taken a break from “trying”), so that made the announcement even more exciting to share. Each of our Moms have kept the boxes on their dressers since we shared them and I know they will be gifts that our families will cherish for a long time.
DIY Tutorial: Minimal Wooden Box Project
Keeping the announcement simple and memorable was important to me, so when I dreamt up this minimal wooden box project, I knew I landed on something good. I wanted to share this quick and easy DIY tutorial on here because it is super affordable and a unique way to announce to your family, friends, and/or on social media. Feel free to get even more creative with this craft and personalize it as you wish. You are essentially starting with an empty canvas (aka an unfinished wooden box), so let your imagination be your guide.
Materials
- 1 Hollow Unfinished Wooden Box with Hinged Lid
- Crinkle Cut Paper Shred Filler
- 1 Fresh Flower (I used a white rose)
- 2 Sprigs of Dried Lavender (or any flower you prefer)
- Printed Sonogram Photo
- Printed Note “Surprise! Baby _ coming _”
Directions
- Tape or glue your printed sonogram photo to the back top of the box.
- Fill the empty wooden box with enough crinkle cut paper shred to fill about 3/4 way.
- With your fingers, make a small hole for the rose to sit tightly inside of the crinkle cut paper.
- Add 2 sprigs of lavender and your printed note.
In each wooden box, I added a printed sonogram photo, a couple sprigs of lavender, a fresh rose, and a little note that read, “Surprise! Baby Hartman coming 2021”. This project is a unique, affordable, and classy way to share your first ultrasound news with soon to be grandparents or your partner.
