Mercy Comfort Health Center for Women by INVISION Architecture
INVISION was selected by MercyOne Des Moines to help lead the design of a comprehensive Women’s Center, offering integrated and coordinated health care in the first center of its kind in Iowa. The design team focused on Mercy’s goal to create an innovative and patient-focused center that gives women the opportunity to connect with other women for preventive and specialty care services in one convenient location. Located in Clive, IA, Mercy Comfort Health Center for Women gives patients a welcoming, non-clinical, and comfortable atmosphere.
Methodology and Process
To streamline operations, reduce patient steps, and shorten visits, INVISION used patient mapping exercises, LEAN methodologies, and full-scale mock ups throughout the process. In the interest of time and budget, the project was phased, the design process was accelerated, and INVISION engaged with a large team of users early and often.
Architectural Identity and Design Features
The center addition needed a strong physical presence and identity, as the existing building featured a heavy rhythm and symmetrical repetition through its materials. The design team created an innovative exterior entrance design featuring dramatic height and Corian cladding. Inside, the design incorporated spa-like finishes and elegant, high-performance glazing to leverage the healing qualities of daylight.
