Abortion Information and Costs in Virginia
If you are considering abortion, an ultrasound will provide important information that will tell you more about your options. An ultrasound can confirm a viable pregnancy and estimate how far along you are. An ultrasound can answer three major questions: Is the pregnancy in the uterus? How far along are you? Is there a fetal heartbeat? This information is critical regardless of what options you may be considering.
Types of Abortion Procedures and Their Costs
Abortion costs in Virginia vary depending on how far along you are and the abortion procedure that you receive.
Medication Abortion (Abortion Pill)
Medication abortion, also called the abortion pill, is FDA approved for use up to 10 weeks from a woman’s last menstrual period (LMP). The typical cost for the abortion pill in Virginia starts around $500.
Suction Aspiration
Suction aspiration, also called suction curettage, or vacuum aspiration abortion, is performed between 5 and 13 weeks LMP. The cost in Virginia starts around $575.
D&E Abortion (Dilation and Evacuation Procedure)
D&E abortion (dilation and evacuation procedure) is performed from 14 to the point of fetal viability. Viability is generally considered about 24 weeks from a woman’s LMP. The typical cost for D&E abortion in Virginia starts around $640 and increases in cost the further along you are in your pregnancy.

Free Pregnancy Services and Support
To help you confirm your pregnancy, we offer free pregnancy tests in Blacksburg, Radford and Wytheville, Virginia. At your appointment, you will be provided a lab-quality pregnancy test. A positive pregnancy test (including those taken at home) suggests a high probability that you're pregnant. However, the result should be confirmed. If positive, you will be offered a free and confidential ultrasound. If your test is positive, our staff will determine next steps, such as an ultrasound exam, and the best time to schedule that procedure.
We also have an online pregnancy calculator that can be used to calculate your due date based on your last menstrual period. This is not a diagnosis. Get an estimation of weeks from reported last normal menstrual period. This is a “guide” only.
