Surgical Missions and Modern Healthcare Infrastructure Advancements
The JAHJAH Foundation is dedicated to helping Jamaica in the areas of healthcare and education. A significant milestone was the docu-short from JAHJAH Foundation’s first surgical mission to Black River Hospital, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. The focus of this mission was to provide gynecological surgical procedures to Jamaican women who are in need. Our volunteers worked in partnership with the team at the Black River Hospital to successfully execute this mission.
Support for Public Health Facilities in Jamaica
Our mission is to help improve the quality of healthcare that is delivered at public hospitals and health centers in Jamaica. For instance, Kingston Public Hospital received gifts valued at over U$5,000 from the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ). The donated items include sheets, towels, wash rags, gloves, suture kits and other sundries. These items will help the KPH team efficiently deliver health care services to the largest population of Jamaica.
As Colleen Wright, the Acting Chief Executive Officer at the Victoria Jubilee and Kingston Public Hospitals, emphasized: "KPH see approximately 2000 patients per day and the items will significantly help to improve the services delivered at the hospital on a daily basis."
Innovations at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center
In New York, Jamaica Hospital Medical Center has opened a new Women’s Imaging Suite that will feature digital breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography) along with state-of-the-art ultrasound and stereotactic breast biopsy, bringing all services into a convenient, private location. The hospital aims to provide women with the technology, services, and care needed to detect breast cancer early and fight the disease in its newly renovated facility.
The advantages of 3D mammography are many. Unlike 2D imaging where a single image is taken in each projection, 3D mammography units rotate in an arc and take images of the breast at different angles. In addition to 3D mammography units, the suite is equipped with new ultrasound machines that utilize shear wave technology that allows radiologists to perform advanced imaging procedures.
Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital Expansion
Developments are also occurring in Massachusetts, where Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital (BWFH) operates as a 171-bed, non-profit community teaching hospital located in Boston. The hospital offers comprehensive medical, surgical and psychiatric care as well as complete emergency, outpatient and diagnostic services.
In 2022, state regulators approved a $2 billion expansion plan which MGB put forth, including a $150 million addition to the Faulkner campus. The project was to add 78 new patient beds and completed in 2025. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the building expansion took place on June 8, 2025, featuring a new parking garage and a five-story medical building. Consequently, patient capacity was increased by 45%, with 78 new inpatient rooms.
Overview of Hospital Capacity and Missions
The following table summarizes key data regarding the hospitals and missions mentioned in the material:
| Hospital / Project | Key Feature / Impact | Status / Capacity |
