M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center – West Bank East Building
M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center – West Bank East Building offers assistance to 12 to 19 year olds with drug related and mental health problems who don’t need 24 hour supervision. For those seeking care, an assessment is a critical first step in determining how to best care for each patient. Their treatment teams receive information not only from the patient’s records but from family members and support systems. To ensure patient access, in addition to phone and video visits, same day visits are available at the Fairview Hospital campus located on Riverside Avenue.
Intensive Outpatient Treatment and Therapy
Their intensive outpatient treatment consists of 3.5 hours of group therapy and 2 hours of academic instruction each weekday. This comprehensive approach ensures that therapy includes relapse prevention, psychoeducation, and dialectical behavioral approaches (DBT). Along with weekly family therapy sessions with their loved ones, patients also receive individual therapy. Furthermore, patients can also see the onsite psychiatric provider to manage their meds, where they’ll discuss the appropriate dosage so they can stay healthy without becoming too dependent.
Family Involvement and Continuing Care
Involving families is a crucial component of their program. Family members are invited to participate in the evaluation and treatment procedures in order to assist their kids in improving their mental health. The center also provides education workshops to help you realize the negative consequences that substance use has had on their lives. Throughout the course of treatment, they’ll encourage you to support open communication. After initial treatment, they provide continuing care after a patient has completed their primary treatment program. During this phase, they’ll want to assess your recovery and make sure you don’t relapse, using a structured curriculum that may include individual, group, and family therapy.
Infrastructure and Accessibility
The facility is located on a signature street connecting University of Minnesota, Augsburg, and Fairview to the public and the local community. The Riverside Avenue project resulted in a streetscape that promotes safe transportation for transit, bicyclists, pedestrians, and automobiles, as well as a more welcoming environment. For visitors, most of the pedestrian space in the plans met the “acceptable” range of 12 feet identified for non-local street types, providing significantly more pedestrian space than the narrow sidewalks in existence at the time.
Patient Experience and Feedback
While the center provides many services, some reviews highlight significant concerns. One patient stated that the hospital also refuses to acknowledge the actual issues at hand. Another visitor claimed that the hospital staff, and security LAUGHS at you during mental health crisis! Further feedback suggests that the doctor takes OVER 1 Hour to do stitches on my ONE arm and waiting for discharge papers takes OVER 45 minutes. Regarding financial matters, one person noted that I went there thinking insurance would cover the bill. It did not now im stuck with a 2000 dollar bill. Another review expressed deep dissatisfaction, stating that this place could not care less about you and that they only care about money and nothing else.
