Our all-new Gruppuso Family Women & Newborn Center adds 50,000 square feet to our facility and is equipped with advanced medical technology to ensure the safety of you and your baby. Comprehensive Maternity and Pregnancy Services
We offer a range of services such as routine prenatal care and education, high-risk pregnancy management, obstetric anesthesia consultations and neonatal care. Specialized clinical departments include:
- Maternal-fetal medicine (MFM): specializes in high-risk pregnancies like preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, multiple births and fetal abnormalities. We use advanced tools such as ultrasound and fetal monitoring to create personalized care plans for both mother and fetus.
- Obstetric anesthesia: manages pain relief during labor and delivery, ensuring the comfort and safety of both mother and baby. Northwell’s Staten Island University Hospital has been designated a Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) Center of Excellence since 2022.
- Neonatal care unit: Our neonatology specialists offer round-the-clock, compassionate care and unwavering support for your newborn. Our neonatal care unit blends advanced expertise with a deeply family-focused approach.

Midwifery and Alternative Care Options
The vast majority of pregnancies are considered low-risk (an estimated 80%) and an additional 10-15% are considered moderate-risk. For these populations, we offer midwifery care that is responsive, compassionate, and provides unparalleled maternity support. Midwives and OB GYNs work together to ensure that you and your baby are surrounded by a team of experts who are ready to meet your care needs in every scenario. We share clinical protocols and a common patient record, facilitating a seamless transition from pregnancy to delivery and postpartum care.
