Planned Parenthood: A Leader in Sexual and Reproductive Health
Planned Parenthood is the nation’s leading provider and advocate of high-quality, affordable sexual and reproductive health care for all people, as well as the nation’s largest provider of sex education. Through health centers, programs in schools and communities, and online resources, Planned Parenthood is a trusted source of reliable education and information that allows people to make informed health decisions. Planned Parenthood organizations serve all patients with care and compassion, with respect, and without judgment, striving to create equitable access to health care. We do all this because we care passionately about helping people lead healthier lives.
Organizational Structure and Mission
Planned Parenthood is made up of many separate non-profit organizations across the country. While these organizations are tied by a central mission — to protect access to sexual and reproductive health care and education, no matter what — they are separate entities.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA)
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates, which operate nonprofit health centers across the U.S. PPFA works to educate the public on and advocate for issues of sexual and reproductive health.
Planned Parenthood Affiliates
Planned Parenthood affiliates are separately incorporated 501(c)(3) charitable organizations that provide essential care to 2.1 million patients annually. Planned Parenthood affiliates are trusted sources of primary and preventive care for people of all genders in communities across the country. One in three women in the United States has visited a Planned Parenthood health center.
Planned Parenthood Action Fund
Planned Parenthood Action Fund is a separate nonprofit membership organization tax-exempt under section 501(c)(4). The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and limited electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education. Like Planned Parenthood Federation of America, many Planned Parenthood affiliates have related 501(c)(4) local organizations.
Our Impact and Reach
Planned Parenthood is America’s Most Trusted Name in Sexual Health®. The majority (more than 70%) of Planned Parenthood patients have incomes at or below 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).
