Comprehensive Resources and Support for Abortion Care and Reproductive Health
The Doula Project believes everyone should be trusted to make the decisions right for their body or pregnancy. To support these decisions, several resources are available to provide emotional, informational, and clinical assistance across the country.
The Medication Abortion Hotline
For those seeking immediate assistance, the Medication Abortion Hotline provides national 24/7 compassionate non-medical emotional & informational support from trained doulas during a medication abortion. You can Text 1 (844) 518-1672 for 24/7 support; a doula will respond within an hour of your text. All conversations are confidential and anonymous text-based chats, available to anyone having a medication abortion in the USA.
DIY Doula Zine: Self-Care and Agency
The Doula Project created DIY Doula: Self-Care for Before, During, & After Your Abortion, a 48-page zine all about self-care and agency – two things we all need. Our goal for this zine is to be “long-distance doulas” to our readers who might not have access to a doula in their communities. "[DIY Doula] is jam-packed with useful tips that are often delivered with a laidback yet trustworthy voice, which lends each entry the feeling that it was written by your best friend," as noted by Stephanie Jimenez for Ravishly.com. The zine also acts as a huge, diverse toolbox that gives some more practical support and answers FAQs that we often find ourselves addressing in clinics.
Clinical Support: Whole Woman’s Health Empower-Line
Whole Woman’s Health is proud to finally introduce our new state-wide Empower-Line! Texas ladies (and gents) can now call us 6 days a week, ~12 hours a day to ask questions or make an appointment for any clinic in the state. Our phone counselors have been trained extensively on everything from answering your specific questions about abortion care, to helping us all understand the new Sonogram Law a bit better. Current phone operating hours are Monday – Friday, 7:30AM – 7pm, and Saturday, 7:30 – 2:30pm.

Identifying and Navigating Anti-Abortion Centers
It is important to be aware that some facilities, known as anti-abortion centers or “crisis pregnancy centers,” present themselves as resources for people facing unplanned pregnancies, but in reality, exist to dissuade people from accessing abortion care. These centers are typically managed and funded by organizations that oppose abortion in any and all circumstances. They often use abortion stigma, medical disinformation, and deceptive practices as a way to dissuade people from accessing abortion care.
Community Programs and Training Opportunities
The Doula Project works across the spectrum of choice to provide birth doula care at no cost to people who cannot otherwise afford it. While the Doula Project Birth Doula Match program is on hiatus for new requests at this time, other opportunities for involvement exist:
- Internships: The Doula Project seeks interns to work with us in both clinical and administrative settings. Internships are available every semester and the summer session.
- Training and Volunteering: Only doulas trained in our program can volunteer in our collective, as our weekend-long training includes critical information needed to work with our partner providers.
