Advances in Women’s Healthcare: Facility Expansions, Medical Education, and Comprehensive Wellness Services
Providing World Class Healthcare Services for a Healthier Tomorrow requires significant investment in infrastructure and specialized training. The Conway Regional Medical Center Surgery & Women’s Center Expansion serves as a prime example of this commitment to improving healthcare delivery.
Expansion of Medical Facilities and Infrastructure
This expansion and renovation of the healthcare facility features an 85,000 square foot addition and 10,000 square feet of renovated space. The project is designed to enhance patient care through specialized areas, including:
- Eight new obstetrics rooms
- A new surgery department and lithotripsy room
- Post anesthesia care unit and preoperative holding area
- Central sterile processing and storage
- Same day surgery area
Graduate Medical Education and Rural Care Access
In response to critical needs in the region, Wellstar Health System and Colquitt Regional Health System are launching a new residency track to train obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) physicians in Marietta and Moultrie. This program is unique in that it will provide new physicians with the opportunity to train in both suburban and rural areas of Georgia.
This initiative addresses a vital gap, as Georgia currently ranks among the worst states in the nation for maternal care. According to the March of Dimes, more than one-third (34.6%) of Georgia counties are maternity care deserts and do not have a single obstetric healthcare provider. By improving access to care, health systems aim to ensure many maternal deaths are preventable.
Known as Graduate Medical Education (GME), Wellstar has grown its program from 14 trainees in 2016 to nearly 300 today. With the new residencies, Wellstar will support more than 860 physicians in training, helping to meet the critical need for physicians in rural Georgia.
Comprehensive Wellness and Diagnostic Services
The Christine E. Lynn Women’s Health & Wellness Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital provides women with a continuum of care that addresses a woman’s unique medical needs, from young adult through menopause and beyond. It serves as a touchstone for women’s health, redefining how care can be delivered.
Advanced Imaging and Diagnostic Tools
The institute features the latest imaging technology at the Dr. Lee and Esther Ellman Center for Imaging. Available diagnostic tools include high-tech equipment in a beautiful, soothing environment:

Additionally, Mobile Mammography via the MammoVan brings breast cancer screening and education throughout South Florida, offering the same type of advanced 3D mammograms available in clinical settings.
Community Outreach and Preventative Programs
Preventative screenings are extremely important for early detection. In Colorado, HRRMC’s Women’s Wellness Connection grant educates, empowers and encourages women to access annual wellness exams. Prevention is Powerful, and annual exams are a way to prevent illnesses and detect health issues early, when they are easiest to treat and survival rates are highest.
The Women’s Wellness Connection program offers free cervical cancer screenings/Pap smear tests and free breast cancer screenings/mammograms to women who qualify. To be eligible, women must be between 21-64 years old, living within a specific income level, and be uninsured or underinsured.

Specialized centers, such as the East Georgia Women’s Center, focus on pregnancy care, gynecological problems, and infertility issues.
