Looking after your sexual health can be daunting - and sometimes you are not even sure where to start. Your Sexual Health Matters, delivered by Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, provides sexual health information, clinical services, and practical advice and support to people living in Derby and Derbyshire. We offer free and completely confidential sexual health services to anyone living in Derby or Derbyshire.
Clinical Services and Contraception
Our specialist team can help you with a wide range of sexual health needs. Services provided by the NHS are free to UK residents and include:
- Routine testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV.
- Contraception, including the contraceptive implant, injection, patch and pills.
- Coil fitting and removal, caps, and diaphragms.
- Emergency contraception and pregnancy testing and support.
- Free condoms and safe sex packs which include condoms and lube.
You can also access the Personal Health Record (PHR) to book appointments, order free condoms, get secure messages and manage your details – all in one place. It is quick, private and available 24/7.
HIV Prevention and STI Testing
PrEP is a tablet that can be taken by people who do not currently have HIV. You may be eligible for PrEP if you are at a higher risk of acquiring HIV, for example: men who have sex with men, sex workers, transgender people, and those with HIV positive partners. If you are interested in finding out more about PrEP, please speak to your local NHS sexual health service as it’s now available for free.
We offer free testing at our centres, but alternatively, you can order a free, discretely packaged test kit to do from home. Your test kit will arrive in a plain envelope and will contain everything you need to provide the samples that will be tested in the lab. Tests available from the online service include a full screen or individual testing kits for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and HIV.
Community Support for LGBT+ Individuals
Derbyshire LGBT+ are here to help and work closely with local sexual health services to make sure you have access to all the information you need. We are currently running pop-up Community Sexual Health Clinics at our Derby and Chesterfield community centres. There, you’ll be able to see a clinician and have access to PrEP, STI screening, and free condoms. You can also collect free self-testing STI kits as well as condoms and lube from any of our centres.
Private Testing Options
For those seeking alternative options, Your Sexual Health has a private sexual health clinic on Charnwood Street in Derby offering a wide range of private STI tests for all common conditions. This service ensures that all testing is discreet and confidential. Simply book an appointment at a time that suits you, arrive at the clinic and deposit your sample to submit for testing. We will notify you in a matter of days with your results.
