Everything You Need to Know about Telehealth at Planned Parenthood
At Planned Parenthood, we provide patients with non-judgmental, expert sexual and reproductive health care by phone and video, in addition to in-person care. Telehealth provides you a ‘face-to-face’ appointment through a video visit with one of our expert providers. High-quality, affordable care — wherever you are. Just because you cannot come in for a visit, it doesn’t mean that you should delay your care!
Services Offered via Telehealth
Most of the services available at a Planned Parenthood health center are also available via telehealth. You can have an online visit with one of our providers for a wide range of services, including:
- Birth Control: We have a variety of options to access birth control without a physical exam (Pill/Patch/Ring).
- STD Testing and Treatment: You can discuss your symptoms and best treatment course with one of our providers; you can also request a home testing kit.
- Emergency Contraceptives: Access care for emergency contraception quickly.
- Medication Abortion: Our telehealth services make abortion care more accessible with the same level of care, comfort, and safety.
- Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy (GAHT): Just like in-person, your provider will review your medical history and discuss your goals.
- UTI Treatment: Review your symptoms and determine the best treatment course.
- Pregnancy Testing and PrEP: Expert care for your sexual health needs.
How to Prepare for Your Virtual Visit
Here’s everything you need to know to prepare for your visit to ensure it is as similar to an office visit as possible:
- Technology: You will need a stable internet connection and a smartphone, computer, or tablet with working video and sound.
- MyChart Account: Patients seeking telehealth are required to sign-up for MyChart prior to their appointment.
- Privacy: Please find a quiet, secure, private space for your visit to ensure that conversation is confidential and free from distractions.
- Documentation: Be prepared to present a valid photo ID that includes your name and date of birth.
- Check-in: Please sign-on 15 minutes prior to your appointment to complete the e-check in process.
We offer telehealth services in 240+ languages, including Spanish! If you would like an interpreter for your visits, please call and let us know when you make your appointment.
Insurance, Payment, and Pricing
Planned Parenthood is here to provide care, no matter what. You can use most insurance plans, including Medi-Cal and Family PACT. This is true for both in-person and telehealth appointments.
If you do not have insurance, you can choose to self-pay. We also offer a sliding fee scale for patients without insurance, based on household size and income. Please call us at 1-800-576-5544 to determine your eligibility. Please be aware that PPLM will attempt to bill your insurance for your telehealth visit, just as we would if your appointment was in the health center.
Available Care Options by Platform
- Telehealth Video Visit: Expert care through a face-to-face video visit. We’re in network for most insurance plans.
- Planned Parenthood Direct App: A quick and convenient way to get care on the go. Please note, Planned Parenthood Direct is currently self-pay at this time.
- Asynchronous Care (E-Visits): Available through our Patient Portal for existing patients. E-visits are not covered by insurance; flat fees for service apply.
