Understanding Abortion Options
At Women’s Clinic of Atlanta, we provide easy-to-understand information about your abortion options, including the abortion pill. It is important to speak to a licensed medical professional to ensure you receive factual information about each procedure option, as there are plenty of myths about abortions you may have heard. We believe it’s critical for you to you make an informed decision about abortion and know your rights.
Comparison of Abortion Procedures
- Medical Abortion (The Abortion Pill): Uses special medication to terminate a pregnancy. It stops your body from producing a hormone needed for pregnancy called progesterone, then causes your uterus to empty.
- Surgical Abortion: Unlike a medical abortion, it doesn’t require the same specific medication protocol. There are different types of surgical abortions, and the method used depends on how far along you are and your preference.
Abortion Regulations in Georgia
In Georgia, abortion is legal until the presence of a detectable human heartbeat, which is normally around six weeks. A woman must know the probable age of the fetus and if there is a heartbeat to schedule the abortion. It remains a requirement in our state to complete pregnancy verification and receive abortion education at least 24 hours prior to any abortion procedure. In addition to these requirements, the medical community suggests ultrasound to confirm the gestational age of the pregnancy. We are proud to offer these services free of charge at our two clinics in Decatur and Johns Creek, which allow us to serve women across the Atlanta area.
If you think you’re pregnant and need answers, chat with our team or call to speak to our scheduling coordinator. Our licensed medical professionals and trained patient advocates support your choice and are here to serve Atlanta women from all backgrounds, listening to your concerns without judging your decisions.
