Women and Health: Integrated Care in Camden

Women and Health is a Camden based health charity in London located at 4 CAROL STREET, CAMDEN TOWN, London NW1 0HU. This center features a blue plaque for Boo Armstrong, champion of integrated healthcare. As a community centre and safe contemporary space, it provides a variety of support services including:

Women’s Health of Central Massachusetts

The Sturbridge office is our newest location, recently relocated from Southbridge in August 2020. It is staffed by our obstetricians and certified nurse midwife to ensure comprehensive care. Midwife Services at UnityPoint – Marshalltown

UnityPoint - Marshalltown announced the implementation of midwife services which will serve as a replacement for the OB/GYN and Women’s Care clinic which closed in late 2019. On Jan. 13 the Women’s Health Outreach Clinic will begin operation inside the Multi-Specialty Clinic on Main Street. Nine midwives will be rotated at the Marshalltown location to provide essential care.

Some of the care that will be provided includes initial obstetric visits, routine prenatal care, gynecological exams, screenings and vaccinations, and fertility counseling. Even though UnityPoint in Marshalltown will bring back prenatal care, there will not be a labor and delivery option; instead, the midwives will be instrumental in helping pregnant women transition to a facility which will be able to handle baby delivery.

Dispelling Midwife Myths

To better understand the role of midwives, it is important to address common misconceptions:

• Myth: Midwife care is inferior to hospital care. Fact: To become a midwife, a person needs to hold a master’s degree and pass a certification exam.
• Myth: Midwives only deliver babies in the home. Fact: They are provided by UnityPoint Midwife Services and work within clinical outreach settings.
• Myth: Midwives are only for pregnancy. Fact: They also provide gynecological exams, fertility counseling and menopausal care.
• Myth: Midwives are old-fashioned. Fact: Many midwives utilize modern medical techniques and help provide a personalized approach to women’s health.
